Dark poetry is created by utilizing the darker side of life, ongoings, experiences like death, dying, pain, depression, horror, war, serial killer, torture, murder, etc. There are talented writers in the dark world who really are passionate about the dark genre. Dark writing types can include moods, life experiences, and events, on the dark side that is. Writing the dark genre does not have to include characters, or people. Here are the best forms to use when creating dark poetry that can help make it a hit:
* Lanturne- This is a Japanese style verse that is written to display the shape of a lantern.
* Brevity- The main key to writing in brevity form is to use metaphors and omit all filler words. 300 words maximum. Transform your words into art. Allow your words to flow like silk. Use power in short space.
* Etheree- This is a form of poetry created about twenty years ago. Etheree consists of ten lines of unmetered and unrhymed verse. The first line starts by having just one syllable, and each line thereafter adds a syllable. The first three forms are left or center aligned. The traditional rule is writing without rhyme, but some prefer to rhyme.
* Traditional Cinquain's- ONE 5 line stanza with a syllable count of 2-4-6-8-2 in each progressing line.
Many of today's contemporary poets or poetesses, do not follow rules or poetry forms. Many times what is thought to be poetry is in fact prose. Here is an example of the dark:
A lonesome boat in the harbor rocks insanity Big waves of the black sea roll across the white sands that fade into darkness for eternity Far from the life giving drops of rain are predators in the city of shadows
Dark words, thoughts, feelings, emotions, and vivid dark images can create dark poetry or prose. The dark genre is a vast one. Beware that the dark genre is one that is most often bashed, ridiculed, shot down and frowned on. This is true because darkness can be controversial and shunned because of death, dying, depression, etc. Standing up for and respecting your passion for writing dark poetry can take you a long way.
Writing poetry can be excellent therapy. Mastering non-rhyming poems first is the best way to begin. A most common distraction for new modern contemporary poets today is rhyming.
