Love Poems Are Free

If you have ever been in love, you know it is more than just an attraction or a wish to spend time with someone, it's a moving clock inside you that ties your heart to theirs, that measures every mile of distance, and every moment until you can meet again. Flowers and candy can serve as material tokens of affection, but a love poem, written from the heart, is an everlasting tribute.

Why give that special someone a greeting card with stamped words that mean little, if anything, about the two of you, the special bond you share?  You don't have to get the rhyme perfect or be a proven artist to try your hand a poetry.

The first step is getting in touch with your emotions. It's a brave act indeed to tame the rational mind and write from a place of intuition, of imagination, of spirituality. Once you let go and let the words fly to paper, you will be amazed at what you can construct. Whether you say it plainly or metaphorically, the page that comes alive with your words is precious. Get the ideas down and then add some structure if you wish. It can be as long or short as you like. You can take your lover's name and try an acrostic poem, or just focus on a talent or characteristic of your loved one that you find most endearing.

Love poems endure long after the candy box has been discarded and the flowers have wilted. If you are lucky enough to receive poems from a loved one, make a special box for them, decorated with your personal art. The author of the poem will appreciate your tender care of their words, which if handed down to future generations will tell them more about your love than pictures or family history records.
